Call to Worship

Based by Five Solas

Leader: Come and hear the One whose infallible words are all we need for faith and practice.

Congregation: Lord, your Word alone is a lamp to our feet and a light to our path.

Leader: Come boast in the One whose gift of grace is all that we need for the hope and promise of salvation.

Congregation: By grace alone we are saved. Lord, we boast only in you.

Leader: Come in faith to the One who has called you from darkness to the Kingdom where He is King.

Congregation: Without faith it is impossible to please God. Lord, in faith we believe you exist and that you reward.

Leader: Come to Jesus who alone can save you and  bring peace.

Congregation: Christ alone is our only hope.

Leader: Come and give glory to our great God who deserves all our praise.

Congregation: To you alone, Lord, be praise and glory forever and ever.

Songs of Praise – A Mighty Fortress/ Behold Our God

Reading of the Psalms – Psalm 90:1-6, 13-17 (ESV)

Lord, you have been our dwelling place in all generations. Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever you had formed the earth and the world, from everlasting to everlasting you are God. You return man to dust and say, “Return, O children of man!” For a thousand years in your sight are but as yesterday when it is past, or as a watch in the night. You sweep them away as with a flood; they are like a dream, like grass that is renewed in the morning: in the morning it flourishes and is renewed; in the evening it fades and withers. Return, O Lord! How long? Have pity on your servants! Satisfy us in the morning with your steadfast love, that we may rejoice and be glad all our days. Make us glad for as many days as you have afflicted us, and for as many years as we have seen evil. Let your work be shown to your servants, and your glorious power to their children. Let the favor of the Lord our God be upon us, and establish the work of our hands upon us; yes, establish the work of our hands!

Prayer of Confession

Lord, in your Scriptures you give us the words of life; yet so often, we refuse your words and listen to that which brings death. Forgive us, Lord, and teach us.

Your grace alone saves us, O God; and yet so often we try and earn your favor through our moral works and earthly service. Forgive us, Lord, for your grace is all we need.

Jesus, you call us to follow you by faith alone; and yet we doubt your power and promise and turn to earthly things. Lord, help our unbelief.

Jesus, you are the Christ, the Anointed One of God; there is salvation in no one else. Yet we so easily turn away from you and cling to other names, because we do not believe that you alone can save. Lord forgive our sinful selves.

Father, Son and Holy Spirit, to you belongs all the praise and glory; yet we claim credit for those things that you have done, and we rob you of the glory that is yours alone. Forgive us, Lord, and cleanse us. Turn our hearts to you, for yours is the Kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever. Amen.

Songs of Reflection – You Alone Can Rescue/ My Faith Has Found a Resting Place

Reading of the Scriptures – Acts 4:1-12

And as they were speaking to the people, the priests and the captain of the temple and the Sadducees came upon them, greatly annoyed because they were teaching the people and proclaiming in Jesus the resurrection from the dead. And they arrested them and put them in custody until the next day, for it was already evening. But many of those who had heard the word believed, and the number of the men came to about five thousand.

On the next day their rulers and elders and scribes gathered together in Jerusalem, with Annas the high priest and Caiaphas and John and Alexander, and all who were of the high-priestly family. And when they had set them in the midst, they inquired, “By what power or by what name did you do this?” Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them, “Rulers of the people and elders, if we are being examined today concerning a good deed done to a crippled man, by what means this man has been healed, let it be known to all of you and to all the people of Israel that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead—by him this man is standing before you well. This Jesus is the stone that was rejected by you, the builders, which has become the cornerstone. And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.”
