Congregation: We will not hide our thanks and praise, but tell of the glorious deeds of the Lord and all the wonders God has done for us.

Songs of Praise – Come Thou Fount/The Goodness of Jesus

Reading of the Psalms – Psalm 70 (ESV)

Make haste, O God, to deliver me! O Lord, make haste to help me! Let them be put to shame and confusion who seek my life! Let them be turned back and brought to dishonor who delight in my hurt! Let them turn back because of their shame who say, “Aha, Aha!” May all who seek you rejoice and be glad in you! May those who love your salvation say evermore, “God is great!” But I am poor and needy; hasten to me, O God! You are my help and my deliverer; O Lord, do not delay!

Songs of Reflection – O Lord, My Rock and My Redeemer

Prayer of Confession

Generous God, you have given us so much, but we confess that we are often not thankful. Give us thankful hearts because we know our hearts can be hard and cold. We often hold on when we should let go. We are hoarding when we could be generous and doubting when we should lean on faith. We are fearful instead of trusting in your everlasting care. Give us again the assurance of your love and care, and fill us with grateful hearts and open hands. Amen.

Assurance of Pardon

Affirmation of Faith – The Apostles’ Creed

I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, God’s only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; [he descended to the dead.] On the third day he rose again; he ascended into heaven, he is seated at the right hand of the Father, and he will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy [Christian] Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

Reading of the Scriptures – 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18

But we do not want you to be uninformed, brothers, about those who are asleep, that you may not grieve as others do who have no hope. For since we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so, through Jesus, God will bring with him those who have fallen asleep. For this we declare to you by a word from the Lord, that we who are alive, who are left until the coming of the Lord, will not precede those who have fallen asleep. For the Lord himself will descend from heaven with a cry of command, with the voice of an archangel, and with the sound of the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive, who are left, will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we will always be with the Lord. Therefore encourage one another with these words.
