Enter His Gates with Thanksgiving

Call to Worship

Leader: Shout for joy to the Lord, all the earth. Worship the Lord with gladness; come before him with joyful songs.

Congregation: Know that the Lord is God. It is he who made us, and we are his; we are his people, the sheep of his pasture.

Leader: Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name.

Congregation: For the Lord is good and his love endures forever; his faithfulness continues through all generations.

Leader: We begin in the name of the Lord who made us.

Congregation: Let us sing and worship together as we praise God’s holy name.

Songs of Praise – Praise to the Lord the Almighty/ We Will Feast in the House of Zion

Reading of the Psalms – Psalm 123 (ESV)

To you I lift up my eyes, O you who are enthroned in the heavens! Behold, as the eyes of servants look to the hand of their master, as the eyes of a maidservant to the hand of her mistress, so our eyes look to the Lord our God, till he has mercy upon us. Have mercy upon us, O Lord, have mercy upon us, for we have had more than enough of contempt. Our soul has had more than enough of the scorn of those who are at ease, of the contempt of the proud.

Prayer of Confession

Almighty God, you are eternal, gracious, loving, and steadfast. We come into your presence knowing that your mercy is beyond our deserving. None of us is worthy of your tender care. We confess before you our sins of self-righteousness, pride and possessiveness. Remove our blinders to our faults and increase our sensitivity to those around us. Renew your peace within us, that we may approach you with confidence and serve you with joy. We ask it through your Son, our risen Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.

Songs of Reflection – His Mercy is More

Reading of the Scriptures – 1 Thessalonians 5:1-11

Now concerning the times and the seasons, brothers, you have no need to have anything written to you. For you yourselves are fully aware that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night. While people are saying, “There is peace and security,” then sudden destruction will come upon them as labor pains come upon a pregnant woman, and they will not escape. But you are not in darkness, brothers, for that day to surprise you like a thief. For you are all children of light, children of the day. We are not of the night or of the darkness. So then let us not sleep, as others do, but let us keep awake and be sober. For those who sleep, sleep at night, and those who get drunk, are drunk at night. But since we belong to the day, let us be sober, having put on the breastplate of faith and love, and for a helmet the hope of salvation. For God has not destined us for wrath, but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ, who died for us so that whether we are awake or asleep we might live with him. Therefore encourage one another and build one another up, just as you are doing.
